Accommodations at The Casale
There are four double occupancy bedrooms and one single, pass through bedroom connected to the terrace on the second floor. Three of the bedrooms have vineyard views. Connecting two of the bedrooms with one bathroom is a small parlor, forming a private suite. On the 20’ x 45’ roof terrace you can enjoy not only the glorious view, but also a game of table tennis or foosball. This floor has two full bathrooms. One has a tub/shower and the other smaller bath has a stall shower. “Nonno’s Study” is a favorite place for the teens to hang out because of the strong wifi connection.
A focal point of the Casale is the expansive 20’x 45’ living room and dining room with 180-degree views over the Roman plain. There is a Renaissance refectory dining table with seating for 14 and a grand fireplace for gathering the group. Through the antique doors, is the smaller parlor with the TV/DVD player and a smaller table that is lovely for breakfast as it is bathed in the southern light. Also on the ground floor is another full bath and a small bedroom, sometimes used by guests who prefer to avoid the stairs.
The Heart and Soul of the Casale
Our vintage country kitchen has all the amenities – dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, gas stove, coffeemaker, pots, pans and an interesting collection of spices. A past guest commented that the kitchen might look old-fashioned, but it is one of the best-equipped kitchens that he’d ever cooked in. Where else would you find a fine collection of copper pots and five sizes of stove top espresso coffee makers? The farm office, used by the owner and staff, is connected to one side of the kitchen and has its own outside entrance. It tends to be busy in the mornings, but guests are encouraged to peek in and ask for touring or restaurant suggestions or just to chat.
“An outstanding location for a family reunion”
We rented Casale Sonnino for a week for a family reunion to celebrate my wife’s 80th birthday. We had our four sons and their wives to stay. It was the perfect place, a beautiful villa in lovely grounds near enough to be able to visit Rome plus many other interesting sites such as Ostia Antica and Tivoli. Giorgio, the owner, provided excellent service including three delicious dinners, one being a wonderful party complete with a birthday cake to which my wife’s relations and Italian friends were invited. We all had a fabulous time!”
